Edmonton Wedding Photographer: What to Expect
Booking a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning your Edmonton wedding. Your photos are the lasting record of your day—the one thing (besides your rings and each other) that will remain long after the cake is eaten and the flowers have faded. As an experienced wedding photographer based right here in Edmonton, I’ve guided hundreds of couples through the process, and I know how overwhelming it can feel at first.
Here’s exactly what you can expect when working with a professional Edmonton wedding photographer—from our first contact to receiving your final gallery. My approach is designed to be seamless, enjoyable, and stress-free so you can focus on celebrating your love.
Initial Inquiry and Consultation
It all begins with your inquiry. Most couples contact me via my website form, email, or Instagram. I reply within 10–30 minutes—evenings and weekends included—so you get quick answers and peace of mind right away.
We’ll then set up a relaxed consultation—over Zoom, phone, or in person at a cozy Edmonton café if you’d like. This is our chance to connect and make sure we’re a great match. I’ll ask about your vision, venue, guest count, rough timeline, and the moments that mean the most to you. You can ask anything: about my shooting style, how I handle Edmonton’s unpredictable weather, low-light winter receptions, or favorite portrait locations around the city.
By the end, you’ll have a clear picture of what’s included in packages, optional add-ons like engagement sessions or second shooters, and whether my personality and approach feel right. There’s no pressure—I want you to feel completely confident in your choice.
Booking and Pre-Wedding Planning
Once you decide to book, the process is straightforward: a simple online contract and a $100 deposit secure your date immediately. The remaining balance is due on the wedding day itself—no need to worry about additional payments in advance.
After booking, we keep in regular contact. A few months out, I send a detailed questionnaire to gather your full timeline, family formal groupings, special requests, and any must-have shots. This ensures I’m fully prepared.
I strongly recommend including an engagement session (it’s part of most packages). It’s a fun, low-pressure way to get comfortable with me and the camera while creating beautiful images for invitations, save-the-dates, or your home. We can shoot anywhere you love—river valley trails, Old Strathcona streets, or a meaningful spot in the city.
About 2–4 weeks before the wedding, we’ll have a final planning call to fine-tune the timeline, discuss weather backups, and address any last-minute details. I also share a preparation guide with tips on lighting for getting-ready photos, styling details, and making the most of your day.
On Your Wedding Day
I always arrive early—15–30 minutes before coverage begins—to scout locations and lighting. My style combines documentary candids with gentle guidance: I capture real moments as they happen while helping you look natural and relaxed during portraits.
Getting Ready Coverage often starts here, with styled detail shots (rings, dress, invitations, flowers) followed by candid moments—bridesmaids laughing, parents helping with final touches—all shot unobtrusively.
First Look and Portraits If you choose a First Look, I’ll find a quiet, scenic spot for that private reveal, then flow into romantic couple portraits and wedding party photos. It’s a calm, joyful time with beautiful light.
Ceremony I photograph discreetly from multiple angles, focusing on authentic emotions—the walk down the aisle, vows, rings, and reactions. I’m equipped for any setting: bright outdoor sun, dimly lit churches, or snowy winter scenes.
Family Formals Using your pre-submitted list (ideally 10–15 groupings), we work quickly and efficiently to keep everyone happy and on schedule.
Reception I document entrances, speeches, first dances, cake cutting, and dancing—staying for the key moments and often into the lively late-night energy Edmonton receptions are famous for.
Throughout the day, I’m more than just a photographer: I’ll help with boutonnieres, hold bouquets, bustle dresses, or remind you to hydrate. If you add a second shooter, we cover even more angles without missing a beat.
After the Wedding: Editing and Delivery
Your images are backed up immediately in multiple secure locations. Within 3 days after the wedding, you’ll receive several beautiful edited preview shots—perfect for sharing with family and friends while the excitement is still fresh.
The complete gallery—fully edited and ready to cherish—will be delivered within 14 days. Every photo is hand-edited by me personally for consistent color, light, and mood, ensuring a natural, timeless look without heavy filters or fleeting trends.
You receive a private online gallery for easy viewing, sharing, downloading high-resolution files (with personal print rights), and ordering prints or albums. I’m always happy to recommend heirloom products like fine-art albums or wall prints.
My style emphasizes warmth, emotion, and authenticity—creating images that feel genuinely like you. Clear communication, reliability, and a calm presence are non-negotiable for me.
Final Thoughts
Working with your wedding photographer should feel supportive and exciting from start to finish. My priority is delivering not just beautiful photos, but a wonderful experience that lets you be fully present on your day.
If you’re planning your Edmonton wedding and want a photographer who will make you feel relaxed, celebrated, and cared for, I’d love to hear from you. Get in touch—I can’t wait to learn about your story and help create memories you’ll treasure forever.
